Yoga for Global Peace and Unity – Global Calls Protocol

A unified IYF practice for UN International Days, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Background & Purpose

The International Yoga Federation (IYF) hosts Global Calls on selected United Nations International Days. These synchronized practices build awareness for people, planet, and peace while fostering community action. This protocol offers a simple, recognizable sequence that any group can adopt worldwide.

Why a Protocol?

  • Create a shared, global yoga moment for peace and unity.
  • Show clear alignment with UN frameworks and the SDGs.
  • Strengthen IYF’s identity as a peace-promoting federation.

When it’s Applied

  • 21 September – International Day of Peace
  • Other IYF-selected UN Days (e.g., World Environment Day, Human Rights Day).
  • IYF Yoga & Awareness Festivals (online and hybrid formats).

Unified Practice Sequence (Approx. 20 minutes)

IYF Global Calls – 10-posture sequence for Yoga for Global Peace and Unity

  1. Half Gate Pose
  2. One-Legged Standing Pose
  3. Bow to Ear Pose
  4. Boat Pose
  5. Seated Twist Pose
  6. Plow Pose
  7. Cow Face Pose
  8. Downward Facing Dog on One Foot Pose
  9. Reclined Thunderbolt Pose
  10. Headstand Pose (optional variations / replace with safe inversion if needed)
Timing suggestion: 2′ opening breath & intention · 20′ sequence · 3′ closing silence.

How to Run a Global Call Event

Opening (2 minutes)

  • Centering breath and a shared dedication to peace and unity.
  • Suggested phrase: “Yoga for Global Peace and Unity.”

Main Practice (≈ 20 minutes)

  • Guide the 10-posture sequence mindfully; encourage safe options and props.
  • Invite practitioners to connect breath, movement, and compassion.

Closing (≈ 3 minutes)

  • Short collective intention or silent prayer for peace.
  • Invite participants to share their experience and post responsibly with IYF hashtags.

Participation

  • Open to individuals, yoga schools, NGOs, and community groups worldwide.
  • No fee or membership required.
  • Online and hybrid hosting are welcome to increase accessibility.

Safety & Accessibility

Practice within your capacity, respect contraindications, and modify or skip postures as needed. Inversions (e.g., Headstand) are optional; offer safe alternatives such as legs-up-the-wall. Organizers should ensure a safe environment and encourage hydration and rest.
